HOUSE HUNTING

As my wife and I are currently “house hunting” we have been amazed by the condition of some of the houses we have looked at. The process always goes like this:

1. We see the house online, generally seeing pics of the outside and inside. We like what we see and request a showing of the house.

2. We pull up to the house and from the outside it looks structurally sound and generally appeasing to the eye.

3. We go inside the house and start seeing things that bring an alarming concern to the actual structure and integrity of the house.

So, what appears “nice & structurally sound” on the outside and through pictures is often trashed, broken, rotten, and more.

This just makes me think on how well this illustrates our individual lives. How many people look “nice & structurally sound” on the outside, but are actually trashed, broken, and rotting on the inside?

God tells us that we need to examine our hearts. What are we filling our lives with? Is our inside matching up with our outside? We need to take off the masks, and stop with the masquerade. We need to first realize that we are being fake before we can start being real.

“Do not consider his appearance or his height for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16:6-7

THE MAN IN THE RED BANDANA: REMEMBER 9/11

There are many stories about individuals stepping up to be “heroes” during the tragic event of 9/11 10 years ago. From firefighters to paramedics, to the person on the street, the men and women who stepped in to help on that day, they are all truly heroes.

There is one story that really hit me today, a man named Welles Crowther. He is known as the man with the red bandana, and you can watch his inspiring story here.

I will be wearing a red bandana this 9/11, will you?

[R] PROJECT KID’S SHIRTS

Okay, so I have had a lot of requests for The [R] Project to create some kid’s apparel to have spread the message of Hope.

So as we are doing some “behind the scenes” stuff for The [R] Project, we are excited to announce that we will be having our very first kid’s shirt available in just a few weeks!

We have 2 shirt designs created, but can only print 1 for the time being. So we are asking for your help! Which design should we print… A or B?

Here’s a quick description behind the reason for each design:

A. “IT’S GONNA BE O-TAY!” this is our kid’s version of our “IT’S GONNA BE ALRIGHT” shirts. The whole concept behind the design is that no matter what is taking place in our lives, God can make everything O-TAY!

B. “[R]OCK STAR” We believe that every child is a blessing from God. They truly are His [R]OCK STARS!

VOTE AND WIN!
1. Simply leave a comment with either “A or B”
2. All entries must be submitted by Monday, September 12.
3. We will randomly choose a winner from those who have voted and they will receive 1 Kid’s T-shirt and 1 Adult T-shirt (choose design here).

EDIT
We had a suggestion to add a Star to the “[R]OCK STAR” shirt. So if you like this version of the design better, just vote B w/ Star!

Happy Voting!

FUN WITH BARCODES

qrcode

Have you notice that those barcodes similar to the one in this post are popping out everywhere? Well, they are called QR Codes and they contain various information such as website urls, phone numbers, nutritional facts, etc…

All you have to do is take your favorite smart phone, download a barcode scanner and then just scan the codes and “voila!” the info pops on your phone! It’s magic… actually, it’s technology in the form of magic.

So I thought this would be cool to use for ministry purposes. Everything from bulletins, mailings, business cards, etc… Here’s a free QR Code generator that I found: qrcode.kaywa.com/ In fact, I used them to create the QR Code in this post. Just scan the code to see a special message just for you (and anyone else that might try it…)

Is this the Mark of the Beast?

COMMUNITY OUTREACH IDEAS

(Originally posted at sermoncentral.com)
Who doesn’t like to be given a cold soda on a hot day? Especially by someone who is smiling, happy, and having fun. SE wins the heart before it confronts the mind. A small act of kindness nudges a person closer to God, often in a profound way, as it bypasses one’s mental defenses. The average Christ-follower is willing to hand a stranger a can of soda (low-risk). The high grace is seen in the typical reaction. “Oh, thank you!” “This is so nice!” “I can’t believe this is for free!” And, “Why are you doing this?”

Kindness builds the bridge for the person to receive a touch of love from God. Add an invitation to church or other method of connection—even a simple card with your church’s name, phone number, and times of services—and you’ve reached someone with the love of Christ! It’s simple, practical, effective, inexpensive, and fun! We get reports from pastors, lay leaders, and ordinary Christ-followers all over the world who have discovered the power and impact of “showing God’s love in practical ways,” and again and again we’ve seen relationships with God borne from these simple acts of kindness in Christ’s name.

The church should always be thinking on better ways to reach out into the community. Here’s a list of 94 ways that we can be more effective in sharing God’s love with others.
