Do you think you have what it takes to be the biggest loser? If you are looking for a challenge to lose some extra poundage that may have occurred over the past few holidays, then step up on the scale!

Here’s the competition low down: starting this Monday, January 2 till the end of the month you will be trying to lose as much weight as possible. If you are up to the challenge you will be competing against others who are doing the same.

Here’s what you will win! Okay, so this isn’t about money, it’s all about the bragging rights and fitting into your old clothes that you thought you wouldn’t be able to wear again! It’s about walking up a flight of stairs without reaching for the oxygen tank. It’s about that little kick in the behind that you have been waiting for… that’s right, I said “behind”. As in, let’s put that extra weight behind you and move forward!

If you want to join the competition, just simply leave a comment with your name, current weight, and if you have a way to measure, your current body fat percentage. (If you don’t want your info to be posted for everyone to see, then just say “Please keep private”).

Once the competition starts, we will then ask for everyone to check in on Mondays with their results for the week. We will then post the leaders based on percentage loss.

Okay, so here is the list of who’s competing in our BIGGEST LOSER contest as of right now… I will only be posting first names and their last initials. I will not show the beginning weights, but will be posting weight loss and total percentages.

It’s funny how God works. Ha ha… okay, so it’s only funny to us because we don’t always (if ever) see the BIG picture. We usually see what is either right in front of us or what we choose to see.

For example: I could be sitting in a room that is completely a mess. (now understand, I probably really couldn’t do that because I despise messy rooms, but bear with me). So, I’m sitting in this hypothetical room that is completely trashed and I could ignore the garbage that lies at my feet by simply looking away from it all. Or even better yet, I could close my eyes and get rid of it completely!

The problem is whether I choose to look away or completely ignore the problem, it’s still there. It’s not until I physically get up and starting picking things up that the problem starts to get solved.

So back to my BIG picture thing. When it comes to figuring out how God works, we often sit down and close our eyes ignoring the stuff around us. God wants our eyes to be open! He wants us to be aware of our surroundings and the people he places in our lives! He wants us to get up and physically/spiritually get to work!

So what does this mean to me? This means that I might not completely see the BIG PICTURE that God has planned for me. However, if I am pursuing Him and doing what I know I’m suppose to be doing now (LOVING HIM FIRST, LOVING OTHERS, etc…), I can’t go wrong!

So what decisions/things are you “sitting” down on? Perhaps even have your eyes closed on? Open your eyes, get up, and get to work… God has got this! I promise…

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. – Jeremiah 29:11

Wow, so this is like 6 months over due, but I want to officially introduce #BABYSWAG!

#BABYSWAG is the name we are giving to our 3rd child who is due in March 2012.

It was made apparent to me yesterday on Facebook that I haven’t really said much about him/her. Now this is not due to a lack of excitement for having another baby. However, I think that this child is already getting the “THIRD CHILD” curse.

When Pam and I were expecting “Baby Dynamite” I talked about him everyday at school, on facebook, etc… When we were expecting “Baby OOOOOOOOooooo….” we did much of the same. But now with #BABYSWAG, I think we have said something like twice. So we are already slacking in the daily announcements of his/her arrival.

I’m hoping that will change now because I don’t want this baby to grow up with only like 2 pictures of their childhood while they look through thousands and thousands of pictures of their older siblings.

So this post is for you #BABYSWAG! Your mom and I love you very much and despite the lack of tweets/facebook posts/smoke signals/ etc… we are quite excited to having you join the Switzer family!

Yea, our baby has swag

As Pam and I continue to clearly hear/understand/know God and His direction for us, we both continue to pray where God is leading us to start a church.

Over the past 2 years we have visited and prayed about NYC, Boston, and basically all the rest of the Northeast. We have also had opportunities for ministry elsewhere in the United States, and even prayed about being missionaries to Honduras.

So, here we are 2 years into praying about starting a church or going into missions, and we both believe that God has a definite answer for us very soon.

Our latest area that we have been focusing on in our prayers is Sullivan County, NY. We are specifically praying about the Rock Hill / Monticello area. I put this out there because we would love you to join us in prayer.

Looking forward to this next chapter in our ministry!

I would like to share my personal story of loss and journey to parenthood.

My husband and I unexpectedly found out we were pregnant in 2005, but it was realized early on that the baby didn’t have a strong enough heartbeat. We were told there was still hope, but unfortunately it got weaker and we lost our first angel. We were never given a reason, just told that this kind of thing happens. We began “trying” to have a baby and found it to be harder then expected.

The next 3 years were very challenging and difficult, but finally in 2008 we discovered we were pregnant again. I can’t express the joy we felt after such a long journey, but after a rush to the emergency room we discovered we had had another miscarriage. The most frustrating and upsetting thing was that the doctors again had nothing helpful to say. I remember one doctor told me that I had “bad luck” and when I asked to have testing done before we tried to get pregnant again the doctor said we don’t do testing till you have had three miscarriages. Not willing to take that chance and risk the life of another baby, I switched doctors and requested testing be done on my husband and myself. It was discovered that I had a bloodclotting disorder called antiphospholipid syndrome and unfortunately this causes miscarriages.

Finally, after two miscarriages and with the help of blood thinners, caring doctors, and ultimately God’s hand we had a boy in December of 2009. Not too long after that we had a SURPRISE and in January of 2011 we had another boy! God is so good and I think it is amazing to have an organization that will provide awareness and help to other families who have lost babies or children. My husband and I wish we had had more support, so many people tell us they didn’t know what to do so they distanced themselves (giving us time and space to grieve) and this actually just added to the hurt and feelings of loneliness. Men and women tend to deal with these issues differently (at least we did) and it would have been of great help to have other women to just talk to. I hope my story gives hope to those that are trying to have a baby and comfort (in a small way) to those that have experienced loss.

God Bless,
Lisa (Mother of two angels and two boys that are truly the greatest blessing)

Safe in the Arms of Jesus by Michael Switzer

One day the Lord’s disciples Tried to send the little children away.
“The Master is much too busy To be bothered with these little ones today.”
But Jesus saw their actions, And He was much displeased.
And as He sternly rebuked them, He set a child upon His knee.

And He took them up in His arms and blessed them,
For He loves little children you see.
And to be safe in the arms of Jesus
is the very best place to be.

Today I stood beside a baby’s graveside While tears flowed freely down my cheeks.
I didn’t understand the reason And for answers my soul did seek.
But the Master so tenderly whispered To my heart from His Holy Word.
Then I finally comprehended And this precious message I heard.

And He took them up in His arms and blessed them.
For He loves little children you see.
And to be safe in the arms of Jesus
is the very best place to be.

Dear friend, are you weary and troubled? Does your heart seem to be breaking in two?
Then come to the One who is waiting to comfort and satisfy you.
Then a peace that you can’t imagine Will fill your heart and overflow,
and then you’ll understand the words of Jesus That He had spoken so long ago.

And He’ll take you up in His arms and will bless you.
For He loves you, don’t you see.
And to be safe in the arms of Jesus
is the very best place to be.

So after almost 5 months of having a beard, I decided to shave it off. So I made a video to honor the hair growth that was really starting to grow on me… (special thanks to my sister for the inspiration for the video, not because she has manly facial hair, but because she and her hubby did something similar over at her blog that you can read by going to Spoonful of Sugar.

Say It With a Picture Facebook Page

Facebook, Google, and My Yearbook, what do all these companies have in common?

Answer: They were all created with an “idea” that turned into “One Million Dollars…” (actually 2 out of the 3 are worth billions of dollars).

Facebook and Google were both created by college students, My Yearbook was created by a brother and sister in High School. You can read about their $100 Million dollar idea here.

So, this leads me to the question… what can I do to make “One Million Dollars”?

Note: I totally understand that money isn’t everything, and I serve a God that provides for all our needs. But, with all the creative juices that our Creator has given us, why not use them to do things that could advance His kingdom?

What “One Million Dollar” idea do you have?
