As my wife and I are currently “house hunting” we have been amazed by the condition of some of the houses we have looked at. The process always goes like this:

1. We see the house online, generally seeing pics of the outside and inside. We like what we see and request a showing of the house.

2. We pull up to the house and from the outside it looks structurally sound and generally appeasing to the eye.

3. We go inside the house and start seeing things that bring an alarming concern to the actual structure and integrity of the house.

So, what appears “nice & structurally sound” on the outside and through pictures is often trashed, broken, rotten, and more.

This just makes me think on how well this illustrates our individual lives. How many people look “nice & structurally sound” on the outside, but are actually trashed, broken, and rotting on the inside?

God tells us that we need to examine our hearts. What are we filling our lives with? Is our inside matching up with our outside? We need to take off the masks, and stop with the masquerade. We need to first realize that we are being fake before we can start being real.

“Do not consider his appearance or his height for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16:6-7
