“I like you Dad, do you like me?”

I think my son asked me this question like 20 billion times this past weekend. And my response was typically the same, “Of course I like you”. However, every once in awhile I would jokingly respond with a “No, I don’t like you” and which he would respond with “yes, you like me dad!”. And then my 3 year old took it to another level when he asked “why do you like me dad?”.

“Why do you I like you?” UMmmm… there are a lot of reasons why I like my son, but what was my 3 year old seeking to hear when he asked me that question? Should I get deep in philosophy and theology with my son? Was he insecure about my relationship with him? Is he looking for a specific answer that will affect him for the rest of his life if I respond incorrectly? Well, after debating in my head for a few seconds on what to say, I simply responded, “I like you because you’re my son and you’re awesome”. Immediately he responded with, “thank you dad, I like you too”.

The answer was simple, I love my son because well… he’s my son. And he is awesome.

Just remember that the next time you feel dejected and alone. God loves us no matter what… because we are His son’s and daughters and yes, you are awesome.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. – Psalm 139:14

That’s exactly what I needed to hear at this moment, Seth.
Thank you and thank you Jesus.
