This is Week 2 of our series “WORDS” looking at the 2 WORDS, “I’m Bored”.

“I’M BORED”

What is Boredom?

Boredom is the feeling you get when you….

– think there is nothing interesting or worthwhile to do in your life

– think that what you are doing is not challenging or interesting

– think that everyone else is busy and you are out of it all

– think that you can’t contribute usefully to anything

– think that every day is the same old, same old…

Dangers of Boredom

– Feelings of Hopelessness, Depression

– Conflict with family, friends, or teachers

– Feeling bad about yourself

– Feeling angry, stressed

– Gossip

– Getting involved in “mischief”, “criminal activity”, “sin”

What’s does the Bible say about Boredom?

1. Boredom is often Selfish

When we say we are “bored” we are essentially saying, “How can I be pleased?”. Our life needs to be focused on Pleasing God.

“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:31-34

2. Boredom often leads to Sin

When we are “bored” we allow our minds to be vulnerable to things such as gossip, impurity, and other sins that come from idleness.

And if they are on the list, they will learn to be lazy and will spend their time gossiping from house to house, meddling in other people’s business and talking about things they shouldn’t. 1 Timothy 5:13

3. Boredom is often not being Content

When we are “bored” it’s often a sign of not being “happy” with what we have.

Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. Philippians 4:11
